Susan E. Champion graduated cum laude from Boston College Law School in 1976. She is admitted to practice to the New Jersey State and Federal Bars. Ms. Champion has practiced with her current firm for over 25 years. Ms. Champion's practice has primarily been in the areas of guardianship, contested probate matters, estate administration and other matters of concern to elderly and disabled individuals. In addition to representing private individuals in conjunction with this practice, Ms. Champion has been appointed on numerous occasions by the New Jersey Superior Court to represent the interests of minors and incompetents. Ms. Champion has participated in lectures, presentations and training programs on the above subjects provided by the Passaic County Surrogate's office as well as presentations to local community groups servicing the elderly. In addition to her general practice, Ms. Champion has also an extensive background in municipal law. In 1984, Ms. Champion joined the staff of the City of Paterson Law Department and in 1993 became the first woman corporation counsel of the City of Paterson, the third largest city in the State of New Jersey. The office's corporation counsel, consisting of 10 attorneys, advises the Mayor, City Council, City employees, drafts legislation for the City, and defends the City in litigation involving some of the major issues of the day, including questions of constitutional rights, labor and employment issues, zoning and land use matters, contract disputes and many other areas. Ms. Champion is a member of the National Academy of Elder Lawyers, and Past Vice President and Master of the Justice Robert L. Clifford American Inns of Court.
